This Dirty Chai Latte recipe is one of my absolute favorite coffee drinks. I drink it all year long but I especially enjoy this drink during the colder months. It has the perfect amount of warming spices and sweetness to it that is perfectly balanced and cut by the single shot of espresso.
What is a Dirty Chai Latte?
It is just an ordinary chai latte with an added shot of espresso. A double shot of espresso in a chai latte will often be referred to as a “Filthy Chai Latte”.
How much Caffeine is in a Dirty Chai Latte?
Each chai will differ slightly and some will be caffeine free. For this recipe, I use Tazo Chai Tea Concentrate which they claim contains between 40-60mg of caffeine for this serving size. A shot of Nespresso Altissio contains 100-110g of caffeine according to their website. This means that this Dirty Chai Latte Contains around 140-170mg of caffeine per serving.
How many calories are in a Dirty Chai Latte?
This recipe contains 137kcal per serving.
Is a Dirty Chai Latte Sweet?
Chai concentrates are usually sweet in general. The espresso really cuts the sweetness in this drink but if it is still too sweet for your liking, try the Skinny Chai Tea Concentrate by Tazo (which is just lower in sugar, no added alternative sweeteners or artificial sweeteners) or brew your own fresh chai tea and have complete control over the sugar content!
What does a Dirty Chai Latte taste like?
Chai is brewed with black tea, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and other spices. This spiced drink still has all of those flavors with coffee flavor added to the mix. This drink tastes similar to a pumpkin spice latte in my opinion, but with much more depth and MUCH less sugar.
How to make this drink
Start by warming the chai latte concentrate either on a stovetop or in the microwave to your desired temperature.
Brew one shot of Nespresso Altissio into the mug of chai concentrate.
Froth the milk with a milk frother or by warming it on a stovetop and then using a whisk, whisk the warmed milk until it becomes foamy.
Pour the foamed milk into the mug of warmed chai concentrate and espresso and mix well. Top with cinnamon if desired and enjoy your Dirty Chai Latte!
