A Toast to Nostalgic Flavors
I pulled inspiration for this Spiced Cranberry Mocktail from a Friendship Tea recipe that my great-grandmother used to make every Christmastime. I’m sure most of you have had it before too – it is a Southern staple around the Holidays and has been for generations.
Friendship Tea is served hot OR cold and a is touch sweeter than this Spiced Cranberry Mocktail. I also swap the Tang from the original recipe for orange juice and top with soda water to reduce the sweetness and add some bubbles. If you’ve had Friendship Tea before, give this Spiced Cranberry Mocktail a try this season and let me know what you think!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups cranberry juice
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 whole cinnamon stick
- 1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1/4 cup red hots
- 1 splash Soda Water (for a sparkling mocktail)
How to make this Cranberry Mocktail:
- In a medium saucepan, combine cranberry juice, orange juice, red hots, cinnamon stick, and whole cloves.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve.
- Discard solids and refrigerate the juice until chilled.
- Serve the spiced cranberry mocktail over ice, garnish with orange slices and whole cranberries, top with soda water, and enjoy!
This Spiced Cranberry Mocktail isn’t just a drink; it’s a trip down memory lane. The combination of cranberry and orange evokes those classic Friendship Tea flavors we all know and love. It’s a reminder of crisp autumn days, cozy gatherings, and the simple joys of the season.
