How to pronounce aioli:
There are two main ways to pronounce dill aioli, depending on whether you want the French or English approach:
- French pronunciation (most authentic): This sounds like “ai-oh-li” with a very subtle “lee” sound at the end. The “oi” makes a sound similar to “wa” in “water.”
- English pronunciation (more common): This is a simpler “eye-oh-li,” with the “oi” rhyming with “boy.”
No matter how you say it, everyone will know you’re talking about delicious garlic sauce!
What is Aioli?
Aioli is a flavorful sauce traditionally made by emulsifying garlic and olive oil. In many kitchens today, it also includes egg yolk for a richer texture. For this Dill Aioli recipe, I use mayonnaise in place of the olive oil and egg yolk. Bunus points if you can find mayonnaise made with olive oil! This creamy condiment is a delicious addition to many dishes, from vegetables to seafood.
